Upkeep
Every single SIA Design cutting board is thoroughly treated with SIA cutting board oil.
The capillary effect of the wood draws the oil deep into the board and protects the cutting board from moisture, odours and other impurities.
Cleaning with detergents and other grease-dissolving soaps removes the top protective layer and makes the board more susceptible to soiling.
We therefore recommend a treatment with SIA cutting board oil every two weeks, depending on use, in order to maintain the beauty of the cutting board for a lifetime.
It just takes Minutes to do.
Which oil is suitable?
Basically any oil suitable for cooking is suitable to use on cuttingboards,
as these are food safe and not hardening, such as oils used for furniture.
In our experience, oils such as olive oil and the like are only suitable to a limited extent, as they can become rancid.
We recommend our designated for this SIA cutting board oil.
SIA Cutting Board Oil is intended for wood products that will be used to prepare and serve food.
Our Sia cutting board oil is made of pure paraffin oil, is suitable for food and allows the oil to penetrate deep into the capillaries of the wood without clogging the pores or ever becoming rancid. Sia cutting board oil thus protects the natural colour and character of the wood and prolongs the life of your cutting board.
Cloth used for oiling can be disposed of with household waste. There is no danger of spontaneous combustion.
Single Steps
Cleaning
Before treatment with SIA cutting board oil, it is advisable to completely remove all dirt from the cutting board.
Apply oil
Spread the SIA cutting board oil generously over the entire board with a cloth or a piece of kitchen paper, we recommend always treating all sides of the board as well.
Let it soak in
Leave the oil on the board for a few minutes until a shiny film is visible. This ensures that sufficient saturation is achieved.
Absorb excess oil.
Absorb excess oil with a kitchen towel or rag.
Air out
After treatment, let the cutting board air upright, preferably overnight. Avoid letting the board dry in direct sunlight.
Refreshing
Depending on use, or for burns and the like, it is recommended to use our refreshing and sanding service once a year. Here the boards are sanded and oiled again to look as flawless as on the first day.
